Is Teeth Whitening Right for Me?

There are no specific qualifications for who should or shouldn’t get their teeth cosmetically whitened. Everyone can benefit from teeth whitening! This is why it’s one of our most popular cosmetic treatments. Though it is important to note that restorative work like fillings and implants cannot be lightened with teeth whitening.

The cosmetic process is rather simple, not too invasive, and the effects are long-lasting. In fact, The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry reports that requests for this procedure have increased by 300% in the last 20 years!

You should keep in mind that there’s a difference between teeth whitening and teeth bleaching. Preparation

To start, your dental hygienist will give you a thorough, professional dental cleaning as well as an overall exam. The exam is just done as a precaution, but any problems that arise could delay your whitening treatment. We want to ensure we take your oral health seriously. Photos of your teeth will also be taken to track your treatment progression.

Together with your dentist, you will determine the shade that best fits your goals prior to the procedure.

Procedure

When your procedure begins, a cheek retractor will be inserted to expose all of your teeth for treatment. We’ll take measures to ensure your gums won’t experience irritation. Then, a bleaching or whitening agent will be applied to your teeth every 15 to 30 minutes until your dentist is pleased with the level of whiteness. In-office treatment brightens faster than any other option available.

When it’s time, the gel and cheek retractors will be removed so you can rinse your mouth. Allow up to two days for the final result to be revealed. If you’d like even whiter teeth, we can schedule a follow-up appointment.

Custom Take-Home Trays

Patients can also purchase a set of personalized trays that are custom fitted to the inside of the mouth. After our team takes an impression of your teeth, you’ll be able to pick up your whitening kit and take it home. It comes with trays and dentist-grade whitening gel.

We recommend using it for one hour a day for two weeks to see the best results. This option is more comfortable and lasts longer than over-the-counter whitening treatments, so it’s a great middle ground between professional treatments.
